Skills & Experience Upon graduation from college, was hired by a small print shop which at that time had very limited design and pre-press facilities. After one year, typesetting and process camera equipment was added to the facility. Was extensively involved in the development of pre-press services, including graphics and design-quality typography. Design projects were undertaken both for in-house production and for production at larger facilities. Typography clients included design studios involved in the production of advertising and promotional materials for major corporations. After leaving that position, spent three years serving corporate and small business clients in the Yuba-Sutter area, first as a freelance graphic designer, and then as a principal of a public relations and marketing firm. Was employed for seven years as Art Director and principal designer for a small, full-service advertising agency specializing in Special Events Promotion. Duties included: graphic design and illustration; hiring and supervision of freelance illustrators, designers, production artists and photographers; purchase and art direction of typography, color separations and other graphic production services; budgeting graphic arts projects; scheduling and purchasing media space/time; and writing copy and proposals. Have used Macintosh computers extensively in all stages of design, including color pre-press, since 1985. Have extensive experience with numerous software packages for graphic art, pre-press, and general production. Extensive software skills, including Photoshop, PageMaker, Quark Express, Illustrator, Excel, Word, and many others. Thorough knowledge of producing graphics for the world wide web, including the browser safe pallette, reducing colors for fast downloads, gif animations, etc. Well-versed in the hypertext mark-up language (HTML). Awards & Achievements Have won nineteen awards since 1990 from the International Festivals Association Media Competition for the California Prune Festival and the California Rice Festival, including: Gold Medal, Miscellaneous Publication (CPF Cookbook, 1990; CPF Map, 1994); Gold Medal, Promotional (CPF Press Kit, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994; CPF Button, 1991; CPF T-Shirt, 1991; CRF T-Shirt, 1993); Gold Medal, Publication (CPF Brochure, 1991, 1992, 1993; CPF Poster, 1994; Silver Medal, Publication (CRF Brochure, 1993; CRF Poster, 1993; CPF Brochure, 1994); Silver Medal, Promotional (CPF T-Shirt, 1992); Best Overall Promotional Campaign (CPF 1992). The IFA is a 1000-member association of special events promoters, including the Kentucky Derby and the Tournament of Roses.
